Monday August 1 was National Girlfriends Day, an annual event for women to celebrate their special bonds and friendships.
My celebration became a week long holiday because it turns out I hung with lots of different friends multiple times. It began on Thursday July 28 at a UNO alumni breakfast followed by a morning of fun and more food with college friends in New Orleans. The next day I lunched with my meetup group which I started nearly three years ago and through which have met the coolest women.
Before the week ended I had done another NOLA day with even more college friends, happy-houred with my meetup group, and attended my neighborhood book club gathering which is always a wonderful time. Plus texted, talked, and fb’d with other longtime bff’s.
Michele Woodward wrote the most beautiful blog post recently and in it suggests community as an antidote for healing the pain in the world. I so agree.
They say you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. I believe there is also an immediacy factor. That is, the energy of the people you are around affects you right then and you take that with you. The more potent the energy, the greater its influence. It follows that if you are around a lot of your best girlfriends for an entire week, you are feeling awesome and doing great work, right?
For sure.
